The Colony Hotel is an independent, family-owned and operated hotel with a sister property in Kennebunkport, Maine. Both Colony Hotels strive to combine gracious hospitality with sensitivity to environmental concerns. Green before green was cool, the Colonys set and achieve their greener goals in: solid waste reduction, material reuse, recycling, energy and water conservation and hazardous waste elimination. We have an educational campaign to make environmental awareness second nature to our employees and guests. In 1996, The Colony Hotel in Delray Beach won the prestigious Green Business Award from Florida Atlantic University and in 2006 was certified a Florida Green Lodge by the Department of Environmental Protection. Annual self audits using Audubon International and Florida Green rating systems support Colony green goals.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES - PURCHASING/RECYCLING Careful purchasing to eliminate excessive packaging, including buying in bulk. Support community businesses by purchasing as many local products as possible. Buy only recycled paper products for office use and promotional materials. Photocopying is doublesided whenever possible. Recycling of soda cans, food cans, office papers, newspapers, glass and plastics. Recycling bins are distributed throughout the hotel for use by employees and guests. LANDSCAPING/MAINTENANCE Use native species in garden design. In renovation projects, use construction methods and materials that are kind to the environment and re-use existing materials whenever possible. Use of recycled plastic decking materials for decks at The Cabaña Club. Eliminating insects by cleanliness, moisture control, and non-toxic products. Use of live plants in interior spaces to clean air naturally. CEILING FANS Offer option not to have sheets and towels changed daily to reduce energy /detergent waste. Guestroom bath amenities include luxury spa biodegradable liquid soap, shampoo, and hair conditioner dispensers. No products are tested on animals. Use every opportunity to inform guest and employees of environmental issues and what we can do to protect our world. NO SMOKING in any Colony building
